Care Interview Questions and Answers
Questions for care assistant, support worker and social work interviews, with what each tests and strong answers to compare with yours.
Care services in England are regulated by the Care Quality Commission, which asks five questions of every service: is it safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Interviews follow the same ground. Care workers are also expected to work to the Care Certificate, whose standards Skills for Care, NHS England and Skills for Health updated in March 2025 to 16, and to the Code of Conduct for healthcare support workers and adult social care workers in England, which asks you to be accountable, to promote privacy, dignity and rights, and to respect confidentiality.
Safeguarding and capacity run through almost every question. The Care Act statutory guidance sets six principles for adult safeguarding: empowerment, prevention, proportionality, protection, partnership and accountability. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 says a person must be assumed to have capacity unless it is established that they lack it. Social workers add the law on safeguarding enquiries for adults and children, and use supervision and reflection to explain their judgements.
